The first trailer for Pedro Almodóvar's highly anticipated film "The Room Next Door" has been released.

Marking the out director's first English-language feature, the film hits theaters on December 20 and stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. They play Ingrid and Martha respectively, who used to be close friends when they were younger while working at a magazine together. After choosing different career paths, the two are separated by the circumstances of life but reconnect in an "extreme but strangely sweet situation" after years of being out of touch.

The trailer features Almodóvar's signature color palette and design but feels moodier than his previous works. The trailer doesn't feature dialogue but finds Moore and Swinton spending time in a hospital room.

Before releasing in theaters, "The Room Next Door" will make its debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 2.

The film follows Almodóvar's 2021 drama "Parallel Mothers" starring Penélope Cruz. He also released the short film "Strange Way of Life," starring Pedro Pascal, Ethan Hawke and Manu Ríos. Though "The Room Next Door" is the acclaimed filmmaker's first English-language feature film, he did release the English-language short "The Human Voice," also starring Swinton.
