HBO Max has ordered "Peacemaker," starring WWE wrestler and actor John Cena, in an eight-episode series spinoff from the upcoming film "Suicide Squad," in which the actor also stars, Variety reports.

While details about the plot are still under wraps, HBO Max has said that the series will focus on DC Comics character Peacemaker, as Variety notes, "a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it."

Production on the series is set to begin early next year, and the "Suicide Squad" film will premiere in theatres August 6, 2021. In addition to starring in both, Cena will also co-executive produce. In a statement, writer and director James Gunn said:

'Peacemaker' is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and the world's biggest douchebag. I'm excited to expand 'The Suicide Squad' and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake."
