Sarah Paulson Says She 'Probably' Won't Return to 'American Horror Story'

Is this the last time Sarah Paulson will star in "American Horror Story?"

The out actress appeared on Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live!" Thursday, People magazine points out, and talked about her roles on Ryan Murphy's "AHS: Double Feature" and "Impeachment: American Crime Story," where she plays Linda Tripp. Cohen asked her what her next project will be with the out producer/writer/director.

"I don't know. It's the first time in about three years where I don't know," Paulson said. "I think this is my last season of 'Horror Story,' probably. I mean, I don't know. Every time [Murphy] comes to me with some whack-a-doodle character, I tend to be like, 'Yes, let's do it!' I don't know, this is the first time. So we'll see."

On "AHS: Double Feature," the 10th season of the FX anthology series, Paulson plays Tuberculosis Karen living in Provincetown. So far, Paulson has only sat out one season — "AHS: 1984," which aired in 2019.

In June, Paulson revealed that "AHS: Roanoke" was her least favorite season, explaining it "underwhelmed" her.

"I just don't care about this season at all," she told The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast at the time. "I know people will get mad at me for saying it, but for me, this was post having played Marcia [Clark on 'The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story'] and it was what I went to do right after finishing Marcia.

"I was so underwhelmed by the whole experience because I felt like I had entered into a new place inside of myself in terms of what I thought possible, in terms of what I might be willing to see if I can do," Paulson went on to say. "I felt really kind of trapped by my responsibility and my contractual obligation to do 'American Horror Story.' As much as it's my home, and I've loved it always, it was the first time I felt like I wish I could have gone to Ryan and said, 'Please let me sit this one out.'"

Paulson's possible exit might not come as a surprise as Jessica Lange, who was essentially the show's lead star, left after five seasons (ending with "AHS: Freak Show").

"AHS" has been renewed through Season 13 on FX.
