A Spooktacular Providence Pride
It's been 45 years since the first Pride march took place in Providence, Rhode Island. Shifting its celebrations from June to October, Rhode Island Pride returns with a schedule of events that includes the 20th anniversary of the illuminated Pride Parade.
Here's a look at some of the can't-miss events:
LGBTQIA+ Resource/Vendor Fair
Saturday, October 30, 11 a.m. — 3 p.m.
This family-friendly community resource/vendor fair will occur in Biltmore Park across from The Graduate Hotel in Providence. The fair will bring together local LGBTQIA+ friendly organizations for outreach, community building and service linkage. This event will take place during the day from 11 a.m. — 3 p.m.
Pride Halloween Jubilee Procession
Saturday, October 30, 6:30 p.m.
Capping off a lively day showcasing LGBTQIA+ Pride will be a special Pride Halloween Street Jubilee to celebrate, march, dance and commemorate the queer community.
The procession will start on Dyer Street across from the Providence River Pedestrian Bridge and will proceed down Dyer Street and cross over onto Memorial Boulevard, turning left onto Washington Street towards Kennedy Plaza and end at the BankNewport City Center. The route on Washington Street is significant as it was the location of the first Pride March in June of 1976, and is now the site for the 300-foot-long All Black Lives Matter mural.
Pride Jubilee Closing Ceremonies
Saturday, October 30, 7:30 p.m.
Following the procession will be the closing ceremonies with entertainment, speakers and performances at the BankNewport City Center located at 2 Kennedy Plaza, Providence, RI.
Don't Miss
In addition to October 30 Pride events, be sure to allow time to visit the RISD Museum's new exhibit, "any distance between us," which explores the power and significance of intimate relationships in works of contemporary art, particularly those made by artists who identify as queer and artists of color. On exhibit through March 13, 2022.
