Actor Wilson Cruz was one of the first critics of Equinox Gym after it came to light that owner Stephen Ross was to host a Trump reelection fundraiser. The "Star Trek: Discovery" star took to Twitter alongside Billy Eichner and Chrissy Teigen to rail against the company. In his first tweet he calls for not only a boycott of the high-end gym, but for the company to take action to try and cancel the fundraiser. He attacks the gym, alleging it was "masquerading as a corporate ally during #Pride." He went on: "You can't use us to make money and then use it to work against us. No."

Cruz also went on to complain that his email sent to support requesting the cancellation of his membership went unanswered. He posted screenshots of his follow-up, which said: "..don't make me come in to an actual gym because an in person meeting won't be pretty. I've had more than enough of the posturing and obfuscation."

Well, the fundraiser went on as planned Friday, and the President seemed to joke about the scandal caused for Equinox, saying: "Steve Ross got into a little bit of trouble this week, I said, 'Steve, welcome to the world of politics!'"

Surprisingly, he also took time during his follow-up speech in Bridgehampton to call for "meaningful [gun] background checks. It is time," he said.

"I spoke to Lindsey Graham [Rep] on the way over in the car, I spoke to Nancy Pelosi [Dem], I called her, she called me, I talked to Chuck Schumer [Dem] ... we are all in agreement about this. It is time for meaningful background checks."

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise given Trump's previous comments after the Dayton and El Paso shootings sparked controversy for calling for increased immigration enforcement.

The President also claimed last week to have spoken to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell [Rep] about supporting background checks for guns, saying: "I see a better feeling right now toward getting something meaningful done. The Republicans are going to be great and lead the charge along with the Democrats."

At the end of the day, here's hoping Cruz gets his gym membership cancelled.
