Atlantic City...Weathers the Storm
Atlantic City championed through one of the most dramatic storms in recent history, when Superstorm Sandy took to unleashing itself upon the Jersey Shore. The historic beach front resort community would again come under the attack of an unseasonably early nor'easter, and just as the casinos and resorts returned to full power once again, the AC would find itself at the mercy of the most perfect storm yet!
Country music sensation Carrie Underwood hit the famous Boardwalk Hall with her dubiously entitled "Blown Away" Tour. Playing to a packed house, including some sprinkled in for color gay fans, the American Idol winner turned music phenomenon performed songs from her latest album. And to prove her heart was in the right place, she donated her concert winnings to the local community to assist with the Atlantic CIty cleanup effort in the storm aftermath.
In the wake of Sandy, Atlantic City is cleaning up nicely, even as its harder hit Jersey shore neighbors put the pieces back together. It's upwards and onwards as the resort properties continue to court LGBT visitors establishing the AC as a viable vacation destination even during its off-peak summer season.
Just recently Boardwalk Hall welcomed the biggest tour of the summer when Madonna brought her "MDNA" Tour into its hallowed halls. With nary a bad seat in the house, it’s no wonder that next March Lady Gaga will be premiering the US leg of her "Born This Way Ball" in Atlantic City. So make sure to get your tickets early and make reservations before the "no vacancy" sign flashes red.
We recommend booking a stay at the gay-friendly casino hotel Resorts, or if you prefer a more casual stay with a flair for "Mad Men" deco-styling check out the aptly named Chelsea just a step away from the boardwalk and all the AC attractions. Continuing to attract some of the music industries biggest names, Beyoncé headlined the launch of the new and spacious Revel and DJ/Producer David Guetta is preparing for a northeast stop at the Borgata.
AC’s Drag Race is On!
Continuing to provide the best dance floor experience to the AC journeyman following the hit tunes to Pro Bar inside the Resorts Casino and Hotel, even pop-singer Ari Gold stopped to take a picture with "Madonna" currently appearing just down the hall in the drag-revue "Diva’s Do AC" that has to be seen to be believed.
A true testament to the community that continues to grow and nurture Atlantic City, the seashore town is more than just blackjack and slot machines. And even in the wake of Sandy it proves that the cultural development is a priority of the city and that the pulse of the nightlife has a beat all of its own.
