The Westboro Baptist Church Has a Vine Account
The vehemently anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church has apparently been on Vine for two months.
The church, known best for their "God hates fags" slogan, posted their first Vine clip on Aug. 28, with the description: "Happy 'I Have A Dream" Speech Day! You know MLK didn't take a bullet for same-sex marriage, right?" The clip shows a few of the WBC's hateful signs against abortion, marriage equality and President Barack Obama.
Vine is a mobile app owned by Twitter that allows users to create and share six-second video clips. The videos can be shared and embedded on several social media websites. The app has been called "mesmerizing" by the BBC and is used by a number of celebrities and has even been used for breaking news. Time named the app one of the 50 best Android applications for 2013. According to the Verge, there are more than 40 million Vine users as of August.
WBC has posted 62 Vines, which equals out to 6.2 minutes, and 2,227 followers. The profile description reads: "Out of true love for God & our neighbors, we warn you with sings & songs that your proud, unrepentant sins bring God's wrath. Be reconciled to God!" They put their location as: "sidewalks of doomed america."
Several of the Vines are (lame) skits featuring members the WBC, spreading their hateful rhetoric, often showcasing their "classic" "God Hates Fags" signs.
Unsurprisingly, Vine users have left comments, slamming the WBC.
"God also says love to everyone. You people need to find a new church Westboro is pure evil!" one comment reads. "WHY CANT YOU LEAVE GAY PEOPLE ALONE?!!? All you are bible smashers who force religious opinion onto others!!
Check out one of their horrible Vines here and make sure your volume is turned down.
