Food Network Host Outs Star Chef
It was recently confirmed that Food Network chef Anne Burrell is a lesbian after "Chopped" host Ted Allen said that the cook was "dating a woman" on a radio show this week, the New York Post reported.
Allen, best known for being an openly gay cast member on the groundbreaking show "Queen Eye for the Straight Guy," revealed on Romaine Patterson's satellite radio show that the Burrell, who hosts "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," is a lesbian.
"I am not going to put a label on Anne, but she is dating a woman right now," he said.
Burrell's rep talked to the newspaper and said that the "Worst Cooks in America" star doesn't feel like she has been outed.
"Anne doesn't feel she was outed. She has made no secret of her relationship. Her significant other is a very private woman," the rep said. "They have been together for a couple of years and spend a lot of time together. It is no secret in the culinary world."
A source told the publication that Burrell is dating a prominent chef who won the same prestigious James Beard Award as the "Iron Chef America" star. The source also claims that Burrell was startled when she learned that Allen revealed her sexual orientation.
Although the rep claimed that the cook was cool about Allen's announcement, the source reported otherwise. When Burrell found out the news, she was filming in the Meatpacking District near the Food Network's studios above Manhattan's Chelsea Market. The source says that she "bolted out" of the restaurant and told staff that she had "a situation to deal with" and took off on her bike. She returned to the set the following day.
"The place was buzzing, but no one dared to ask her about Allen's comments," the source says.
